Climb above a summit
The peak you see from launch every time, once from above. That takes a day with a high cloud base, the way there and the question of which side the air is rising on. For example, not in the lee.
One-to-one coaching
A day in the mountains for the goal you have set yourself.
Mountaineers know this: for a summit you don’t yet trust yourself to do alone, you go with someone who knows the way. You plan the tour together, you climb it together and in the evening you were up there yourself.
Flying works the same way. You bring the goal: a summit you want to see from above once, a crossing of the main Alpine ridge, Valais or another area you don’t know yet. We prepare it together, fly it together and in the evening we look at what you take away from it.

Projects
A few goals people come to me with. Yours can be a different one.

The peak you see from launch every time, once from above. That takes a day with a high cloud base, the way there and the question of which side the air is rising on. For example, not in the lee.

A line that goes further than anything so far. We lay it out together the evening before, with the points where you decide along the way. For each of them there is a Plan B and a Plan Z. How far it was, you find out afterwards from the track.

From Valais into the Bernese Oberland or the other way round. A crossing of the main Alpine ridge needs the right day, height in the right place and a Plan Z on both sides. Then one glide connects two regions that are otherwise three hours apart by train.

In Valais both northerly and southerly situations have an effect and the valley winds come from four directions. We fly a day through the area together: the launches, the landing fields and the three or four places where you need to pay attention here.

The Bernese Oberland, Ticino or the valley you have been hearing about for a long time. A new area takes more headspace than the same round at home. The quickest way in is someone who knows it and tells you beforehand how it works.

How it works
You write to me with what you have set out to do and where you are: flights, wing, longest flight. We look together at what moves you forward on that path: the basics that bring you closer to your goal, or straight away the big thing.
A project like the main Alpine ridge needs a day that allows it. So we set a time window and pick the day from it on which the forecast fits.
We go through the day together: the line, the points where you decide along the way, Plan A, B and Z.
I explain what I see and how I make decisions. You have someone ahead of you and a radio we use to talk to each other.
The debriefing in the evening and a few days later the follow-up with two or three exercises for your next flights.

I fly with you, I don’t fly for you. Launch, route, turning back and landing are your decisions: my assessment is a recommendation, not a clearance.
Chris explained things to me that weren’t always visible or obvious to me and gave me tips without overwhelming me. He teaches you the things others do automatically without thinking about them. You never feel too “stupid” to fly, just that you need a bit more time and experience. That’s how I learned to feel at home in the air and to trust my instinct.
